Biography

Hello, 안녕하세요, my name is Joseph Jungwon Kim, I am a Christian and have been since 2007. I'm Korean-American, the oldest son in the family, and a student at George Mason University - studying Systems Engineering, BS and minoring in Arts and Visual Technology. I serve and worship at Christ Central Presbyterian Church in Centreville, VA.

Yes that's the name of the coffee shop. No I do not own the place.

What's this blog about? How did it start?
I began this blog since 2013 initially to post pictures and videos; however, it eventually became a public journal, a place where I'm able to think out loud. It's all thanks to my friends and family who exhorted me to share my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My hope and prayer is for any readers to be encouraged by the posts.

Why?
My current dream is to become a minister of some category - as of now a pastor of a church. My passion, desire, and joy is to share the Word of God to anyone who's hungry and thirsty for righteousness, holiness, and wisdom. I believe blogging is a good start to that dream.

Also, my writing/grammar is still elementary; so, I'm practicing and improving through blogging. Many apologies in advance and I humbly ask for grace if you see mistakes here and there.

What do I believe?
  1. I believe in the Triune God - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  2. I affirm Jesus Christ is my Saviour.
  3. I believe the Gospel.
  4. I believe in the five "Solas" - Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Gratia, and Soli Deo Gloria
  5. I affirm the doctrines of grace (AKA Calvinism / TULIP)
  6. I believe Christ will return some day.
What's Ivory Palaces?
In early times ivory was rare and costly (even now), it was mostly used for decoration in highly esteemed households. Obtaining and demonstrating ivory, in a decorative fashion, indicated high-class or noble stature, in most cases that of kingly nature. So to describe "ivory palaces" inferred the magnificence and the costliness of the structure, of which marked one's richness, lifestyle, and power.

Therefore, to say "out of the ivory palaces" mean, leaving or sacrificing the pleasurable lifestyle of the palace for something greater. Ivory palaces is an allegorical comparison to the world we live in and the pleasures we surround ourselves with. We all live in our imaginary ivory palaces. However, no palace, no kingdom, no throne on earth can ever compare the glory and majesty of the Kingdom of Heaven, and Christ is the ultimate leading example of one who truly left His "Ivory Palaces" to redeem us. (2 Cor 5:21) He didn't have to but Christ came to us willing.

"Out of the ivory palaces,
Into a world of woe,
Only His great eternal love
Made my Savior go..."

- Ivory Palaces, Henry Barraclough 1915
