Love Hymn: The Love of God

This month is special, by no means of distorted easter eggs, or dear St. Patrick; nor is it the approaching warmth of the season, where the dew of the youth springs alive. It's none of that (not to condescend or degrade any of it; by the way, March is Red Cross Month, Social Workers Month, and National Women's History Month.) It's the month of which we, no I, am reminded of the Gospel - Palm Sunday on Mar 20th, Good Friday on Mar 25th, and Easter Sunday on Mar 27th. It's the revolutionary event which we see God's love for us through his Son. Nevertheless, compels me to share one of my favorite, if not the most favorite, hymns that describes the love of God.

Verse 1
The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

Verse 2
When hoary time shall pass away, and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray, on rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure, all measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race - the saints’ and angels’ song.

Verse 3
Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.

Verse 4 (written by me)
Bless the love of God above that He would send His only Son;
When we would bring a naught of good but shameful sin and brokenness;
Still His love is dined in blood, on Calvary, He climbed.
Redemption through His scarlet ring - the riches of His grace.

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure - the saints’ and angels’ song.
